Why the name Sabil Party?

The initial name was based on the phrase Fi Sabilillah, which I initially thought meant fighting in the name of Allah, which is the purpose for this political party. It also arises from my Suluk culture of "perang sabil" which is interpreted as Islamic Holy War. Among the Tausug, the Suluk people, the word "mag sabil" is used when they want to fight for their rights which are threatened in any way. For me, and I am sure for many others, the most realistic fight is in our daily struggles to survive.

When I started discussing the name with my colleague, he pointed out to me that we cannot use the name of Allah in any Muslim organisation. Hizbullah, which means the Party of God, is an exception but they are followers of Shiah. They are viewed by the West as a terrorist organisation.

On further exploration, Sabil actually means the Way. No mention of which way. But because it is frequently mentioned in the quran, it can be deduced that the ways are those allowed by the quran. As a Muslim, I always use the quran and hadith as the basis of my ways of living. I was shocked in 2022 to realise that all Muslim nations abandon the quranic teachings. It is the West that followed the Quranic ways.

So this party, despite being meant for Muslims, actually promote the adoption of the methods that are proven to be effective in the West that allowed them to attain the status of developed nations, even those that have no resources at all, e.g. Singapore. All the Muslim nations and the non-developed nations, like India should learn from the West so that they will lead prosperous lives.
